Kalpetta
Kalpetta is the headquarters of Wayanad district. The famous Ananthanathaswami Jain temple situated at Puliyarmala and the Kottamunda Jain temple are reminders of the Jain stronghold in the area.

Kalpetta is about 780m above sea level. It used to be a trading town in the past. It still maintains that name in its plenty markets and bazaars. Coffee, pepper and ginger are commonly sold items.

There are many temples, churches and mosques in the vicinity of Kalpetta. The ancient Madiyoor Sri Maha Vishnu Temple, two km away, on the Kozhikode Highway, and the Grammam Devi Temple are famous ones. Three-hundred-year-old Varambetta Mosque, 15km from Kalpetta, is the oldest mosque in Wayanad district. Pallikunnu Church is known for its annual festival in January.
