Pakshipathalam
These natural caves in Brahmagiri hills are loved by birds and trekkers alike! Adventure-lovers are thrilled by this place. There is a watch tower located in the bird sanctuary here. It is only 7km northeast of Thirunelli and 38km from Mananthavady. You can reach this area located 1,740m above sea level only by trekking. It is a centre for bird watching.
There are a lot of animals to be spotted as well. There are elephants, tigers, jungle cats, civets, bison and peacocks in the area. The caves are synonymous with ancient sages who visited this place to meditate.
The best time to visit is between November and April. Tourists are required to obtain permission from the Forest Department to go for a tour to Pakshipathalam. Vehicles, guides and camping apparatus are arranged by the District Tourism Promotion Council.
